The Scribbles Crew: A Whole-School Approach to Emotional Literacy  Framework

The Scribbles Crew- A Whole-School Approach to Emotional Literacy Framework by Exciting Teacher 2025

The Scribbles Crew: A Whole-School Approach to Emotional Literacy is a framework for embedding emotional literacy skills into your Primary-aged Educational Setting.

This is a comprehensive framework that includes all of the materials and resources you need to get started. Simply pick up and go!

We have developed a series of emotions and feelings called ‘The Scribbles Crew’. These are child-friendly scribbles that are easy for children to recreate. This makes them relatable and easy to identify with from ages 2 to 16+.

This framework shares ideas for how you can introduce The Scribbles Crew as a whole-school approach to understanding emotions and feelings through a simple, 4-step process:

  • Identify Emotions and Feelings
  • Self-Regulation
  • Empathy
  • Social Skills

We strongly believe that implementing The Scribbles Crew framework is best done through a whole-school approach model.

A whole-school approach to emotional literacy involves integrating emotional literacy skills throughout all aspects of the school environment, curriculum, and culture to promote the emotional wellbeing and development of children.

It encompasses strategies for nurturing children’s emotional intelligence, fostering their understanding of emotions, and providing tools for effectively managing and expressing feelings.

This approach not only benefits children’s personal growth but also contributes to a positive and supportive school climate where emotional literacy is valued and prioritised (Denham & Brown, 2010).

By incorporating emotional literacy into classroom activities, social interactions, and school policies, educators can create an environment that enhances children’s emotional awareness, empathy, self-regulation, and social skills, ultimately promoting wellbeing and academic success.

Step 2: Self-Regulation

Step 3: Empathy
