‘My Knowledge Ladder’ Editable Template for Visible Learning Progression, Confidence Building & Self-Assessment

My Knowledge Ladder Template Visible Learning Progression by Exciting Teacher 2026

Use this editable ‘Knowledge Ladder’ template to support children with tracking their learning progression through small and achievable steps.

This resource supports inclusive classrooms for all children and supports the Door of Understanding as part of the Open Door Approach.

Knowledge Ladders are a simple way of making learning progression visible for teachers and children. The idea is straightforward: learning is broken down into clear, sequential steps, each one building on the last, so that children can see exactly where they are in their understanding and what their next step looks like.

Knowledge Ladders allow children to climb their learning one rung at a time, building confidence and competence as they go.

How could this resource be used?

  • To support self-assessment and confidence building.
  • To support emotional literacy and identifying confidence surrounding new learning or class/home based activities.
  • To support children in achieving a learning objective within the classroom.
  • To support inclusive classrooms for all children.
